I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

New Stator now R/R Bad????

Any of them without the silly plastic insulators will work, the hard part is the tool. A good tool puts a lot of force on the connector, the crappy ones won't don't do much except make it look crimped. Usually you can pull the wires out, this is why so many people dislike crimp connections, they've never seen it done right. What they don't know is that a good crimped connection is stronger than the wire. If you pull until something gives the wire will break, it won't slide out.

Other than going to Aircraft Spruce and getting something like this:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/el/terminals_crimper/amp_crimper.php
I haven't seen any worth a damn.

The problem is they just aren't shaped right. I have made do at times by grinding off a bit of the tool so it closes tighter and squeezing the cheap crimp tools in a vice to get more pressure on the connection, but that only works if the wires fit in the connector tightly. Also that's just silly to have to do that, someone somewhere should sell an inexpensive crimper that works.

Can also fold one side over the wire with pliers or a vice grip, then fold the other side over, then smash the crap out of it with a vice. Still I'd rather have a decent tool.

Those are 18 gauge wires.
How many poles does your new stator have?
Does it look exactly like your old stator?

Will my motor heat up to 361 F?

This is the point that solder will melt

No but the wires get hotter than the oil. They make a lot of heat. That's why old stators get black and charred. Charring doesn't happen at 360F either.

Wait, are you using a series regulator?

Hello Tekent, What is a Series Regulator? My bike is pretty much stock as far as the charging system goes.

If I had mixed up the Red wire for the Regulator could that cause any issues? Like if I hooked the FUSE red wire to the R/R instead of the Battery Red wire?

Thank you!

Mark

Series regulator basically turns the alternator off when the bike doesn't need much power.

The standard one runs full blast at all times and sends it's excess electrical power back through the stator, making a bunch of heat. That's why stators burn up.

gotcha!!! Now I remember the word "Series" I read it serval times on the Stator pages.

Would you all recommend I buy a new stator and R/R from Electro sport? I am on 48 hour timeline so overnighting it may help me out of my jam.

Thank you!

Mark

I looked at the Stator sheets and I called my Polaris dealer and they did not have any R/R readily available....this is why I expedited the Electro sport stuff.

I hope this was not a mistake.

ElectroSport stators were fine the last time I got one, but their R/R's are not. Look up the SH-775 under the Polaris part number 4012941. They are available online from many places.

It is a heavy burden to carry the horse to the trough

Got that right. You really started something with the Compu-fire. Maybe business will wise up and start pushing series R/R's for replacements. That will leave plenty of material left over for the boat anchor industry.;)

Thank you again! I really wanted to use a Series R/R but I could not get one turned around in less than 48 hours like the electrosport stuff.

Do you think Ill be ok for this trip? Im gonna do about 2K miles in just a few days. Will I know right away if I have a problem?

It's certainly good enough to make the trip, but I would definitely monitor voltage and provide a good single point ground. I read a thread in a forum a while back about someone going through three or five (I can't remember the number) ElectroSport stators. It turned out it was the ElectroSport R/R frying the ElectroSport stators. Battery Tender has a quick disconnect digital voltage meter, but you would need the quick disconnect also. I intend to get one because I have the quick disconnect already installed.

Thank you all again! I tried to find a polris or another series type regulator with no prevail.

I do have a 2001 GSXR r/r? would that be one? I didn't see it on the list of options from the stator pages.

Lastly, should I use the r/r from electro sport or the OEM stock regulator Rectifier that had no issues that I am aware of.

PS: after looing at the stator that I initial purchase as preventative maintenance...I am showing that it doesn't even look the same as my old stator???? Not sure how I missed this!!! It has twice as many winding points.

Thank you!

I bet someone has asked how many poles on old stator and new one!

Just use the original R/R till you find a SH-775 series unit: sell the new ES unit

Those are called poles. Your bike has a 12 pole stator. The one you purchased is an 18 pole stator and will not work. At all. Go back and count the poles again and you will see.

ElectroSport lists a 12 pole stator, return yours for a swap. I found it listed under the '79 850G, but the page showing it lists all the bikes it fits including yours. Maybe that will give you time to order a SH-775.
