A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Looks like my stator has a bad winding in it. Do I try to rewind it? I might have the correct magnet wire. Do I buy a used one and hope it works? Or do I buy a new one? What do you guys think? Or does anyone have one I can buy? Thanks!

You'd do better to buy a new one or get a used one from someone here if you want to ride pretty quickly. Otherwise, you could rewind it. I think Koolaid Kid tried rewinding one but don't know how it turned out. Might want to PM him.

You can find them on ebay for under $100, new.
I have one, as do many other members, no problems here.

Or you can buy the expensive Ricks brand.

Just depends on your budget.

I got a used one 2 years ago and it still works fine. New ones give you warranty along with chinese wire! Bunch on ebay now

try this ebay item #150789861517
looks clean, other units appear to slighty toasted- I prefer to do my own toasting

more; item #220601793360. #370125705457
I'm not sure if there is a thickness problem with the 850 unit- some I have vary about .1 inch in thickness

Hmmm that one fits the '83 450's so it *should* but I'd do some measurements first to be sure. If it's too wide or mounts too far out it will impact with the magnet...

I got an Electrex World for mine locally here as it was quick to get a hold of and so far so good.

The only thing to watch out for is the rubber plug the wires go through.

The only one I know of which comes with it is the Ricks' one, so you will need to re-use your existing one on all the others like I did, and it can be a pain to get it off nicely in one piece.

The pic on eBay shows the grommet present. At that price I would go for it.

Really? I bought an eBay stator and it showed the grommet and it came with the grommet. I guess you could ask the seller if it comes with the grommet.

If not I have a spare from an old stator so let me know if you need it. Of course, I'll have to dig through some things first.

Hmmm... cool, much better than having to struggle with getting the original off! I wasn't too concerned at the time, I just wanted the new stator in ASAP.

Ricks also sells just the grommet if that is all you want. Seems like they are $5 shipped.

Excellent! That would be much easier with the grommet.

Koolaid Kid... thanks for the heads up! That could come in handy...
