    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New Tire Replacement

i have a 1981 gs550t i am planning on replaceing my rear tire in the next week or two would like to have some feedback on a good tire to buy as of now i have a 130/90H17 S11 RWL bridgestone my bike has just over 11,000 miles on it don't no if it is the orignal tire i will be looking for something that will give me a good ride and last by the way i could go up to about $150.00
 
Cheng Shin Hi-Max is a great value - about $46. http://www.bikebandit.com/product/3423?WT.mc_id=5255 I'm getting a set when my current tires wear out. Obviously, this is just my opinion - there are lots of great tires available. You should do a search to get more info.

As a side note, I run 120 rear tires on my 550 currently. It's a good size match for the bike, although a HI-Max is not available in that size.

For that money, you can install two new Cheng Shins instead of leaving the old front tire on there. This would give you a far better result than a top-shelf rear tire and an old front.

Front tires don't wear in an obvious way the same as rears, but they do wear and cause handling problems. In almost all cases it's an excellent idea to replace tires as a set.

Agreed. I was hesitant at first but other forum users gave them the thumbs up.
I bought 2 new (front and rear) Cheng Shin HiMax tires for under $100 including shipping!
I still don't have more than 1k miles on them so I can't give a "how long they last" story but they ride and handle very nice.
Note: I don't think these are rated for over 120 mph if that's what you're looking for!

i just went and picked me up a new hi-max $55. now i just need to get it put on thanks
 
Gonna go to my local shop and see what they stock (or can get today). If they have any brands not covered I'll post it.

Take it easy for the first couple of hundred miles, Asphalt Guy.....your new tire will be kinda' slippery so be careful!!!:-|
