I took my GS1000 upto Deals Gap early this year, what a blast, even though I did not push it over 40 mph, met a really nice group from the 2 strokers annual meeting, anyway this guy passes me up then lets me pass and the same again, he's on a Kawasaki KLR 650, so we stop at the lookout point and he's all over my GS and I'm looking all over his KLR....

So, a few weeks later I bought a KLR 250, which was way under powered, I rode it for 150 miles and decided to sell it.

I saw one ebay a 1995 KLR 650 for $2600 with only 2700 miles, I got his phone number and agreed on a price if I bought it now, so, I drive up to Savanna, GA from Louisiana and got to see it in person, NOT A SCRATCH, perfect and mint, the owner had bought it new in 1995 and put 2700 miles on it then put it in his house since the end of 1995!!!!!!!

So, I am the proud owner of a KLR 650...

Phil, I expect a fully detailed review of the KLR650. On/Off road abilities, the works. It's one bike that I have my eye on now. And right around the year that you just bought. I know that most people that get them, love them. Let me know how it goes.

Nice bike but horrible colours. Even the ones done in camo look better than that day-glo stuff.

I've been interested in these myself but after sitting on one at the bike show last weekend I wouldn't be able to ride it without a lowering kit...which would defeat the purpose. It was the one bike at the show I nearly dropped as when I had it off the side stand I was on tippy toes and my weak left leg almost gave out.

There is a new bike store down our way and he caters exclusively to the dual sport and adventure touring crowd. Always some interesting bikes and gear to see.

With new dual sports coming out in the 400cc range I think you'll see more interest in these bikes. I know I'm starting to see more of them as around town commuters. Being light with good cargo capacity, I can see why.

I'd Love to have one, then pop the big bore kit on it and go have fun. My dream bike is a GS.... BMW r1200gsa to be exact, but since I cant afford that, I would be happy with a nice KLR.

Those big Beemers are nice bikes but huge, silly huge. I can't imagine going anything bigger than about 650 for doing any serious off road travel at all.
Looking for a DR400 or 650, or KLR, any of these will be fine.
The DRs I have ridden were excellent in the dirt.

I am thinking of getting a 400 or 650 dual sport bike next year. I had one as a kid and loved it. I don't know if I want a KLR or a DR or even an XT. Let us know how this bike works on and off road. The colors are a bit off but you can call it "custom paint"...

Go for it, get towing coverage to pick it up when you drop it.

well, I am 6'5" and about 325lbs, add full travel kit, and Im thinking I would be pushing the 650, especially on any slab runs. Add to that, my wife has said she might be interested in riding pillion.
