I'm getting weird numbers when I measure the resistance on my wires and plug caps. Wire to wire is 11.7k and cap to cap is 21.5k instead of the 30k that the manual says. I have a Sperry DM-350A and the settings for resistance are 2k, 20k and 200k. It matters not if I use 200k or 20k on the dial the reading is still 11.7 from wire to wire. Readings are identical on both coils.
Like the title says, I used the stock coils on my 83 850G and just replaced the wires and caps. I used NGK caps and 7mm wire from the local dealer. I was careful to dig out the old adhesive inside the coil and not damaging the spike in the center. The wire I used has a white core around the stranded copper and the outer layer of insulation is black, if all that matters, and only says Nakaya on it. I applied some epoxy around the wires being very careful to stay away from the end where the wire contacts the spike, then sealed the hole on top, all with clear plastic weld epoxy.
I noticed some cracks in the caps and the original wires were showing their age. Also, I had noticed some backfire, or misfire??, and irregular idle at times so thought this made sense to do.
Do the resistance readings seem too low indicating a problem? I could button everything up and check the spark by grounding the plug on the head per the manual, but wanted to reach out to you all prior to reassembly.
Thanks guys.
