A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well before I ask for any info and help better intoduce myself so Hi

Iv?e been lerking here for a few weeks since I became the proud owner of a 85 GSX1100EF barn find, she had been parked up for quite a few years and looked a bit sorry for herself but as soon as I came across her something said go for it so a deal was done and home she came.

first things first check still turns over by the crank and yes no worries there so cleaned carbs filled with oil as has a sump plug leak from stripped threads chucked a battery in hit started and just a click so pulled starter and found brushes buggered so half arsed fix starter back in hit button and she cranked over so some fuel and a little cranking and one cylinder fired followed by the next then another and finally all 4 :D
Ran really well sounds good with no disasters noises, took for little ride up the road and ran well but something going on in the clutch I think as a bit clunky in gear changes but will dig into the engine in due course.
So plan is to restore back to close to factory as possible.

Playing with the big Suzuki is a little new to me as I?m much more familiar with Yamaha 2 Smokes, I?ve restored and have 4 which are a 81 RD250LC, Jap market 84 RZ250RR YPVS, NZ market 85 RZ250RR YPVS and a 86 1KT TZR250 also have a 87 VS700 Intruder as my daily and just picked up a 90 GSXR1100 needing some love so may just tidy up and use as is for now as the EF has priority.

Really looking forward to getting stuck into the EF and have already stripped and dropped off frame of for blasting and powercoat which should be back in a day or 2.

any way Hi again and hope haven?t bored everyone to death

cheers Jason

Good score on the barn find Jason and welcome to the Forum. There are some other New Zealanders on here as well. Sounds like you know your way around bikes and you will find this one a lot more powerful than the 250s. Good luck with the restoration.

Jason, welcome! . We need pictures... especially since its an 1100EF.... I'm a teeny bit biased....
Good luck with the restoration.

Hi guys and cheers for the welcome.

I started on Yamaha 2 smokes many years ago then wife and family etc happened so was without a bike for about 25 years, I did race what we call Stockcars here in NZ for a number of years (look up NZ stockcars way diffent to US) anyway gave up racing as getting expensive and a bit hard on the body (look up YouTube vids of our stocks racing) so had to find something to spend my time garage so brought the Intruder then decided I wanted to go back to where started hence the 2 Smokes.
Was and am still trying to collect all the 80’s Yamaha 250’s so only really need to find the last of the air cooled model and the 2nd model TZR to make the set but have now got a little side tracked with the Suzuki’s.

The EF appeals mainly because as a learner I remember when they came out and drooled over the local one crusing the streets at the time.

Got the frame back today so will endevour to get some pics of it up, man it looks great and a big change from the thing I dropped off covered in surface rust and road grime.
