DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I don't won't to get lambasted by everyone but what do you guys think about taking of the badging on the tank, filling in the holes and using a paint scheme that doesn't include putting the Suzuki back on the tank? I still will keep the side covers OG. This is for a 1977 gs750. Just wondering if this is sacraligious or not.

As Steve said, it's yours, do as you may. Sacreligious? To some maybe, but they aren't riding it.

Pretty much a personal preference thing, I think they look good without badges as long as you fill in the holes/ovals.

Do it right, I've seen a few with chunks of Bondo falling out due to rust underneath.

Ok, here are some pics. I just started stripping the paint today so I am not sure they will help. I have used my "superior" artistic skills to give you and idea of what I am thinking.

Who dat?, I know the bike looks good in the picture but looks can be deceiving. It's not the original paint and the repaint was a very bad job. I think there was only one coat and no clear coat. My plan is not to chop up the bike but repaint it and add new handle bars and a fairing. Hardly a chop job. Everything else I do will be just to make sure it's safe. The old owner didn't give this bike the attention it needed. Something I definitely plan on doing....and them some. I do agree with you though. They sure are purdy just as is.

I like it, digging the wire wheels too. Did you know there is a big brake available for the single brake bikes without going to dual discs?
What's the significance of 113?

Tkent02, I did not know there was a big brake option. That's sweet. Do you have any info on that? I will be looking that up immediately. The 113 is my Firefighter badge #.

It looks like this:

IMAG0001.jpg

The same Kawasaki calipers and Saltymonk's bracket, but the disc is bigger, I think it's from a Blackbird or one of those. Works very nice, one finger for normal stuff, two if you want to really brake hard. The whole thing is lighter than the stock brake if that's important to you.

Any way to make the #113 less garish? If it's a badge number, having a "badge" made with that number in small scale (a la the original tank badges) might be classy.

Thats a pretty good idea. I like that. Yes I can make the # less garish, the drawing is not to proportion. It's just to show someone artistic what I was thinking. I would like it way smaller. I will be looking into your badge idea though.

As others have said, it is your bike and you can do as you please.

With that said, with the exception of the paint, that bike looks very original. It also looks like with a little elbow grease it will clean up beautifully.

My plan would simply be to do the required maintenance, clean it up and paint it in an original scheme/color. Then you can decide if you like it in it's original state. If not, it should easily fund your next bike, if you do it correctly.

Nice bike! Perhaps you could source another tank, seat tail unit etc. Have one set of parts in your own style, and the other set as original? Likewise the brakes. If you do the mod Tom suggested, it will improve the braking, but if you refurbish the originals and keep them, just bolt them back on when it comes time to sell. Clean, original bikes hold their value.

My rule of thumb is that if restoring the bike to the original color scheme, badging definitely; but if not original colors it is optional. My yellow 850 is not badged.
