Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

No more pods ! ! !

Each to tier own, right? You like the setup you have, and I like the setup I have. That's what really matters...

Looks like you had your manifolds on the wrong side of the bike with the pods. The carbs sure hang low in those photos. I've ridden in heavy wind, and rain and never had any problems.

Ya had to jinx me on those carb boots! Lol. Had 2 rip overnight. Replaced them with a couple pretty firm boots from my parts bike and they leak. So! Guess I need to buy fresh boots. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Hmmm, think i would find an air box and not leave air filter out like that. The air box was designed to help in the air delivery.

Sold the air box. Didn't want it. Wanted the high flow of the K&N but did not like the pods.

I jet bikes with pods all the time so I disagree with your results. You need to get with someone that knows what they are doing & can teach you what it takes to make them work correctly. Just my opinion.
Ray.

When a good gust of wind would hit from either side of me (while clipping along at 70+) I could feel the engine lean out. I do know that these carbs are not properly set up for the mods that are on the bike. As I stated above, I did not have any time to pull and build them correctly. Now I'm just trying to limp this 750 engine till the winter, when I start to tear it down and do EVERYthing the proper way. And that includes starting from scratch with the bone stock 1100 carbs I now have. Plus, I think the bike looks better with the intake box installed.

I sure wish we lived closer to each other, because last winter I would have handed you a fistful of cash and the keys to fix her right... Now I'm off the road and have more time than money.

My '83 750 would lean out from a crosswind with the stock airbox on it, switched to pods because of it. It has never done it with pods.

Remember all the work it took to become an expert?

That's a fact, and exactly what some people will never understand.

Superior to individual filters?

Superior to individual filters?

Couldn't stand the pain in my a$$ pods anymore. 75mph rich/lean/rich depending on how the wind was blowing. Had enough!

To this...

And she runs like a scalded dog now. Very fast, very smooth...
Actually, that looks like it should flow very good to me.
With a long air column for velocity, boosting torque, and the even air distribution to the carbs will make adjustments easy.

Bill

It really does work well. Runs a lot smoother, and stronger. I like it, and will stick with this setup.

It's impossible to get a bike to run right with pods and a free flowing pipe.

When I bought my 1000 the PO had the back half of the air box off and a big K&N in there. It had horrible low-throttle response. I returned it to stock and am very happy with the response and power. He had the bike for 30000 miles and almost 30 years so he played around with it. I let him ride it after I returned it to stock and he couldn't believe it. He almost regretted the sale.

I have really good throttle response. Well, with the acception of an intermittent stumble JUST off idle. But again my carbs are not right. I can live with it for another couple months.

i am very intrigued with your findings
witch got me to thinking
stock air boxes suck no matter what you do
k&n is the way to go
Pods are suceptable to wind and weather conditions! also they are exposed so they get dirty easily
so we need a DIRECT air flow line from a single
lets say CONE style air filter that holds the similar VOLUME as the pods
but lets more air flow in much SMOOTHER to the carbs for better UMMPPFH
here is my idea / plan
i want to build a steel piping cold ram air intake system
using the same original concept as the fellas from suzuki did but instead of making a box and attaching everything make a setup just like my exhust 4into1
except reverse 1into4:eek:
use pipes that fit in to the carb slots i hope
if all goes well i will have for yall a stock airbox setup complete with airfilter for sale and k&n pods
wish me luck and i will send yall pics!!

SORRY FOR THE LONG RESPONSE
again just my 2 cents

Wasted genius?

Wasted genius?

WoW!

So, maybe send your plans and resume to Suzuki?

You might be named their new master engineer!

Not an entirely crazy idea. If I didn't have the "type" of airbox that I do. (I think there are some models with a one piece airbox that the filter gets installed from the side?) I would buy one. Not too sure you would be able to keep the cost down low enough to make it an apealing alternative to pods... I can picture it in my mind, and KNOW it would work well. Not to mention it would still be easy to remove your carbs. and I'm betting easier to get them dialed in... Shoot me a P.M. if you ever get a prototype made up...
