hi everyone, new here on this board came over from the kz boards after i just purchased a 78gs750 dragbike with 83gsx750 motor in it project. it has been sitting for 8 to 10 years also. after bringing it home and checking it out i found that i have no oil pumping to the cams.:( had correct oil level in it, pulled the clutch and pulled the oil pump and seems fine but no oil in it when i pulled it. i put a little oil in the pump and turned it by hand and would pump from one side to the other and back. i pulled the oil pan and verified that the pick up screen was not blocked. also i think it may have had an oil cooler on it that was removed and looks like drain plugs put in the oil pan where the lines were. not sure if that matters or if the lines are needed for flow. there's alot of info there and if you bike gods need more let me know.
that was the bad...now some of the good
vance and hines sidewinder exhaust
dyna ign.
dyna 3ohm coils
10 over swingarm
wiesco pistons
forgot what cams are in it something like mr cycle or something
i figure if i can not fix i should be able to get my money back parting it out.
thanks in advanced for the help,
justin

Blow compressed air from the passages at the cam and see if it comes out at the oil filter. No air and the passage is clogged. Now do the filter to the pump with the pump removed. Blow thru the oil cooler. You will have a mess. If all passages seem clear then get the spec for the oil pump and check it, you may need a new pump.

Mega Cycle Cams I think is the brand. I would check and make sure the pump gear drive pins are not missing/broken
83 750 should be a high pressure oil system 50-60 psi

Is the o-ring installed on the oil pan after the pickup tube?

thats it mega cycle cams...i'm going to do the compressed air and still trying to find a diagram of the oil pumping route, already checked the pump gears and all there. is the oil cooler inline with the rest of the sequence of where the oil is going, the oil cooler was removed and drain plugs installed where it would go...removed before i got the bike.
as of the o ring i'll be checking for that when i go out into the garage.
thanks for the ideas to try and check,
justin

thanks gearhead for the link...gots the oil pumping woohoo.
thanks everyone for the ideas to try
justin

i don't know...i blew air through the oil passages, primed the oil pump, and added a line where the oil cooler would be. so it could any of the three don't know which one cause i did all three then cranked it over

Does anyone know if the oil filter cover on the 83 750s blocked the port like the 1150s? That would explain no oil pumping.
