A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 82 gs1100gk that was sitting for a while. had it running pretty good.had the carbs rebulilt afer i fired it up as it was warming up i lost spark on my 2 inside cylinders. pulled plugs no spark at all have power to the coils . Anyone have any suggestions

if you swap your coils and its still 2 and 3 cylinders its not your coil, is it the same coil for both cylinders?? sorry have not got my manual yet

This is for an '85 700 but you can probably use the same tests for your bike.

Here's how to check the ignitor. Remove spark plugs 1 & 2 and ground them to the motor so they will fire when they get power. With the ignitor facing you, the plug on the right side of the ignitor is where the signal generator plug fits. The two terminals on the right side of that portion of the ignitor will be pin 1 at the front and pin 2 at the back. The two left pins will be pin 3 in front and pin 4 at the back. Turn the ignition switch on. With a multitester set a the X1 ohm range put the + probe on pin 2 and the - probe on pin 1. Plug number 1 should fire. Next put the + probe on pin 4 and the - probe on pin 3. Plug number 2 should fire. If this happens the ignitor is good and the signal generators are suspect.

As for testing the pickups, signal generators, measure the resistance between the two wires on each pickup. You should get somewhere around 130-200 ohms. If the resistance is infinity or less than spec they are shot.

To test the coils put one probe of the multitester on each of the terminals on the primary side of the coil. You should get 3-5 ohms. Check the secondary windings by placing one probe into each of the plug wires coming from one coil. Those would be 2 & 3 from one coil and 1 & 4 for the other. You should get 30-50,000 ohms for stock coils and 15-20,000 for aftermarket.

no fire 2 and three

no fire 2 and three

Got spark now took bike out ran great around 3 grand and up plenty of power but it will not idle smooth and when i take off it will ping unless i rev it up a bit but after i take of every thing is fine

Have the pilots been adjusted and the carbs synched on the bike? Start by adjusting each of the pilot screws for the highest smoothest Idle you can get out of them. That may be enough to get it right. Think about changing plug caps too. You can get them here, http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=427.

If it is pinging you still have a carb problem maybe bad intake boots/ O rings

Good advice. I don't know why I always forget that. I guess I just assume if the carbs have been off it gets done but that's not always the case.

o rings

o rings

o rings are leaking any one know what size they are. woul stock o rings work also I have boxes of auto oil ring kits

stock auto o'rings do not hold up to the heat of the head. There are kits you can buy inexpensively from a member of GS Forums. Robert A. Barr [robertbarr2@sbcglobal.net]. His set is called "Viton Intake O-Rings".
