I apologize for the delay in replying to your email.
You are correct about the stator not being on the website. We currently dont have one available at this time.
But we definately have the regulator for you if you are still needing it.
Please let me know what you wish to do.
You can order online or just give us a call-------Electrosport

:( Arrrffff
??Should I go with OEM from Suzuki??
Need your feedback
Thanks guys

I wouldn't.

First I'd see if an '80+ stator will fit physically.

I recall that one of the changes from '79 to '80 (there were quite a few) was a heftier charging system, to offset the lack of a kick starter. It wouldn't take much effort to see if the '79 and '80 covers are interchangeable; if the covers are, odds are so are the stators.

I'd bet that the only difference is a sturdier conductor. I could be mistaken... but if the covers are the same and the rotors are too, well, what else can change?

Anyone out there have a dead '80 or newer stator? We could check to make sure.

Can't endorse the product just yet because I haven't received it, but you could try getting a rewound stator from Tim Parrott. (http://www.tpe-usa.com/) As others have noted, the site leaves a lot to be desired, but he is very responsive and helpful via email.

I had a situation where I wasn't sure if I had the right stator cover for my bike (chrome, but should be black). When I ordered a new Rick's stator from DennisKirk.com, I either got the wrong part or my bike has the wrong cover from an unknown model (inside diameter of new stator was too small).

I sent my old core to Tim Parrott, he matched it up and shipped out a rewound stator right away. It comes with a one year warrantee. At $82 shipped, it wasn't much cheaper than a new aftermarket one, but it might be an option for you.

DennisKirk lists a Rick's for the 79 GS850G/80 850G as the same, but I'm not sure about the GN. (click the "fitment" tab)

http://denniskirk.com/jsp/product_c...tId=4&productId=p210807&leafCatId=&mmyId=2247

Or try RMStator. Or you could try rewinding it yourself as shown in the stator papers. I was just concerned I would mess it up doing it myself.

Dennis Kirk does list the same part # for the 79 and 80. That pretty much ensures that an '80 will fit. (There's also the possibility that Dennis Kirk is wrong... Flatout lists different OEM numbers, but then we know that they're different animals, with different outputs.).

$133 for the Dennis Kirk / Rick's unit.

Personally I'd go with the rewound. But at least we're fairly sure than an '80 unit will fit in there.

The only difference I've seen is that the '79 stator has 12 poles and the '80+ stator has 18. The later part has more windings and moves more electrons.

I'm about 99% sure they will physically interchange just fine. So get a later stator and ride happy.

The part numbers for the stator covers are the same, but the rotors are different for some reason. The 80+ rotors might have stronger magnets or something.

You guys rock!!:-D
I will look into sourcing the '80 unit. Will talk to someone technical at Electrosport about the different voltage output ('79 is 75v and '80 is 80v), just to make sure the upgraded R/R can handle it.
Will post their comments/recommandation for future reference.
I searched the site about this and couldn't find anything covering aftermarket stator for the '79 GS850G.
Again, thanks a million.

Might also be the fact that the '79 stator only has 12 poles.

I am not really up on my three-phase electricity, but I think that the number of magnets has to relate to the number of windings, and they might not be interchangeable.
Can anyone support or deny this theory? Please? :-s

.

You could also use a stator from a pre 80750 if you need a 12 pole. And a stator from a 80 and up 750 if you need the 18 pole. The screw patterns line up the same, etc.

Ummmm ... I'll give that a firm maybe ...

I think that they may not match up, but I'm not sure without seeing them.

the worse part is that if it doesn't work right, it will probably "kind of work a bit" which would lead to chasing every problem but incompatibility ...

But, I don't know definatively either way.

I think the rotors have three magnets (six poles) in them, so it won't really matter if there are 12 or 18 poles on the stator.

On a GS500 (stator interchangeable with the GS850), the rotor consists of three magnets epoxied into a steel cup. I have an '83 GS850 engine I can check later to see how many magnetically sticky points there are, but I think it's the same.

But really, as long as the stator physically fits and doesn't rub anything, it'll work just fine -- the number of magnet poles on the rotor doesn't have to match the stator. As long as everything works in multiples of three, it should be fine.

Dang, this is makin' my head hurt.
