Hi there.

I have replaced the cylinder head gasket and my cam chain, so now I?m trying to put the engine back together.- According to my manual there should be some timing marks on the camshaft - but there is only one arrow and a number (450)on the ex-cam and an number (450) on the in-cam.

What to do?

According to the manual you should have three arrows. Two on the exhaust and one on intake. The cam lobes on #1 cylinder @TDC should point away from each other horizontally to the cover surface and there should also be notches at the end or the camshafts that point inward at each other. At this point an arrow with the #1 should be pointing at the same surface or just below@ a 3 o'clock position, the #2 arrow will be pointing vertically @ a 12 o'clock position. The intake cam with the #3 arrow will be doing the same as the #2 arrow and pointing up, but just right of 12 o'clock. There should be an 18 pin count between #2 and #3 arrows. You will need to hold the chain tight as the cam caps are tightened to keep it from jumping a tooth or two. Also make sure the tach cam is engaged with the cam.

You should have a number1 with an arrow and a number 2 with arrow on the exhaust cam sprocket and a number 3 with arrow on the inlet sprocket as photo.

Thanks for posting that image. I put the arrows on the wrong cams.

? don't know you can see it on the picture, but there is no number 2&3 arrows. Only one arrow on the ex cam. Maybe the original have been replaced by a previous owner?

I can see a number 1 and arrow on the exhaust cam sprocket, just to clarify are you saying there is no number 2 & arrow on the exhaust sprocket ?
what is on the inlet sprocket?

In that picture, the #1 arrow is pointing to the back of the engine. If you rotate the cam one half turn so it's pointing to the front, I'll bet that you will see a #2 arrow pointing UP. Right now, it is pointing DOWN, where you can not see it.

Since the exhaust cam is one half turn from where it should be, the intake cam is also one half turn off, so I'll place another bet that the #3 arrow is pointing DOWN on the intake cam right now.

Give the crank a full turn, which will give the cams a half turn, you should see all the marks.
