    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

no turn signals

got an electrical question here for yah, 81 GS1100 turn signal will light up on the what ever side indicated by the switch but will not flash they just stay lit. if you rev it up to about 4000rpm they start to flash very slow. Tested the generator and comes back right in spec with all the tests suggested by the factory service manual. not sure where to go from here, could it be the turn signal relay and if so is it just a standard 3 wire turn signal relay?
 
No, it's not a "standard" flasher unit, a direct replacement is NOT available at any auto parts store.

If your voltage is proper, check the bulbs. If they all come on but don't flash, make sure they are the proper bulbs.

I think the proper bulb is a 1073, but the 1156 will work just fine.

just pulled the bulbs and they are all correct, and all wiring is in good condition. with the key turned on but the motor off you can hear the relay tick as the lights come on but they just stay solid. and the same goes with the engine running until you hit 4000 or so rpm.

Hi Mr. thirdgen427,

Whenever my blinkers act this way it's because the battery voltage is low. The battery voltage gets low because the charging system is not working properly. I suggest cleaning every electrical connection on the bike, including the fuse box and ignition switch, move the regulator/rectifier ground connection directly to the negative battery terminal, then test according to The Stator Papers, then see the additional information HERE and HERE. Most of the information you'll need to get your bike in tip-top shape is right here in your "mega-welcome".

Anyway, let me dump a TON if information on you and share some GS lovin'. :D

What is the voltage at the battery under these circumstances?
Please give both, the resting voltage and the voltage at 4,000 rpm.

thanks there's a lot a real good information here, I'm in the process of testing the stator now. stumbled upon this in the process, the wire running from the starter to the starter solenoid has continuity to ground. at the risk of sounding dumb is this correct???
