A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

No voltage to coil

Ugh! Stupid USPS, tracking said it would deliver today, but didn't, and now Tuesday! So disappointed...

Quick update, I got the Dyna installed and wired up via old ignitor harness. Hooked battery back up, verified voltage, turned key, and nothing... After some fiddling, I discovered the SIGNAL fuse is more important than just for turn indicators. Popped fuse in, and tried once more; dash lot up and bike immediately started! Won't idle without help and sounds bad (even heard audible electronic 'click' somewhere in the back after restarting), but I imagine it's because timing is off. I don't have a timing light handy, so just lined it up like Mike's picture. Guess it's just close enough to show signs of life. Nevertheless, I feel like I'm one step closer getting this old bike back on the road. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Ok, got a timing light, but can't get bike started long enough to check timing. It's at the extreme anyway based on Mikes picture, not sure how I could adjust more. Doesn't look like pickups can be moved very far...

Alright, today I make a static timing light setup. I first set it up to the white wire (plug 1&4), and to my dismay I could not get light to come on. Thinking I screwed up my DIY static light, I changed to the black wire (plug 2&3), and light came on at pretty much correct time. So I then disconnected and checked spark at all 4 plugs, and it verified only 2 & 3 are getting juice. It's the left Dyna pickup faulty?

Called Dyna, guy answered after hours on a cell phone. Their customer service is top notch. Anyway, we ran through all scenarios and wiring, and he said to send it back. Will post back next week to inform inquiring minds whether this old suzuki lives :)

Alright, I'm at a loss here on what to do next. Dyna sent back unit saying it tested ok, so I'm back at square one on getting 1&4 to fire. I tested continuity of wires to coils, and verified coil resistance is 4.4 on both. I connect test wire in line with black wire to secondary, and get light at correct time. Connecting to white wire to primary coil, I get nothing. One thing I've noticed is that white wire is energized with bike off, but not once kill switch set to run.

What am I doing wrong here? I'm starting to feel rather dumb...

Kill switch seems to be working, hence not preventing 2&3 from firing

I had read through this thread and something jumps out at me that isn't right. You say you have done the coil relay mod. If you have done it properly, you will get the same voltage reading at the coils as you get at the battery. Loosing more than a volt at the coils with the mod just isn't right and at 11V you are approaching the threshold where electronic ignitions don't want to work properly. In the coil relay mod, the kill switch is just used to activate the relay, feeding direct battery voltage to the coils and ignition from the relay. If you use the proper size wire, there should be no difference in voltage at the battery or coils. Secondly you should have a properly charged battery before trying any of this, it avoids a lot of tail chasing. Use your single point ground for all meter readings so your results are accurate. Good luck.

Alright, bike is running again. Thought I'd add the resolution in case it ever should help anyone searching the forums for similar issues. Ignitor went bad, so replaced with Dyna and coil mod. The problem I had after installing had to do with the relay I used for coil mod. Specifically, I just used a new one I already had laying around and did not look close enough to notice second 87/output was really an 87a. The 87a means it has power when relay does NOT have a power signal, and off when it does. And hence, the OPPOSITE of what my coil for 1&4 needed. Splitting the true 87 for the coils resolved this issue. Moral of the story, pay attention to your relay style when doing the coil mod.
