A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

my 1100E is noisy, sounds mostly upper end. much worse when cold, i hear abit if everything ticks, ahint of upper end knock, but when its warm this all stops. is the gs engine known to by noisy? im kinda thinking its because the engine is "chuging" with cold oil (lower idle) but im not sure.

could be cam chain, look into tightening cam chain adjuster. one mechanic i talked to said the gs motor should be on the quiet side. I've been that sound might be exaust leak, but i don't think so in your case.

best of luck on it.

They are inhearantly noisey like all air cooled engines. After you have put some miles on your bike you will hear what is normal, what is not. If your mechanic said the GS should be quiet-- find another mechanic

I hear all kinds of rattling if I don't keep it choked up above 1000 RPM's when cold. I keep it choked until it'll idle on it's own at about 12-15K. No noises.
I had a great running '85 Nighthawk that was the same, so I assume this to be normal. I've also thought about the cam chain, but for now I'm not messing with what is working.

Could be fuel mixture too.
My bike was running lean in the mid-range until about an hour ago when I raised my needles a notch.

All through the 2500-5000 rpm range the bike was noisy, knocky and just gutless. Raised the needles and I got my zest back, it runs smoother and is back to being quiet as well.

You never know...

Be afraid if your 1100E isn't noisy like a freight train on steroids. Because if it isn't, it probably isn't running at all!
