I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Non-Rotating Throttle

I apologize. I have not been able to get to the bike. Being a good husband and Dad has taken precedent over the bike the last couple of days. That said ...

I am texting the wife right now telling her I am going to be a derelict this evening & that I am taking a few hours to work on the bike.

Finally got out the the garage, after being put in a sheeeeet mode. So I am not sure whether I jerked to hard or whether they are just old, but the throttle cables need replacing. That said ... Something on the carbs throttle linkage is/are not moving properly. It was after the replacement of rings and cleaning, but now it ain't. Looks like I will have to tear down again and rebuild.

I am not in a good mood!

Take pics of the front, back and from both sides of the linkage so we can see what you are seeing..it will help greatly in the responses.

Gentlemen ... I would like to thank you all for you idea, suggestions & areas to look for my resolution. But it seems somewhere between my cleaning/rebuild, testing and me actually putting the carbs on; (it was a few weeks); it seems someone (I'm assume one of her grandsons) decided to put something inside the top of carb 2 & 3 to keep the slide from moving.

I found this out last night. Was too P-O'ed to work on it. Came back inside and had several adult beverage.

Tonight, I cleaned them again. Throttle is functioning amazingly well. No damage to the slides. I have not starting the bike because cut my finger on something and the blood was dripping everywhere. Heading back out now.

Here are the pictures, I took of the throttle assembly, if you still want to look & make comments or more suggestions. (I know the idol adjustment screw is missing. It is easier to remove it to remove the cables).

So when I go back to the garage, fuel had leaked all over the floor. Apparently the petcock I just bought is NOT up to snuff. Also, it's fuel spot broke off.  Off to contact the ebay seller I bought it from to see what he is going to do to compensate me or he'll get receive negative feedback.

interesting resolution to this matter. why on earth would some one put a restrictor in the carbs? also, did you not notice it the first time you stripped them down.

post up a pic of what they used as restrictors..........

Sorry if I did not explain well...

Someone place screw/bolt in carbs 2 & 3 which didn't allow the slide to function properly and also didn't all the throttle to work properly.

NO. Nothing was in them when I rebuilt them. The screws/bolts were placed in between the rebuilt and install. I DID NOT DOUBLE CHECK. MY MISTAKE! Which will never happen again.

on a similar subject

Noticed this issue earlier assumed it was the cables for the throttle.
Replaced both cables

The Throttle is tight and seems to stick like it has a throttle lock,
Sprayed and lubed the cable accelerator carburetor Linkage etc...

Does not seem to be a mechanical issue cables alignment etc.
Stiff and would think a dangerous issue as does not snap back like other bikes.

Is there some adjustment I missed or is this normal for the 1979 GS1000?
No screws in the way the movement forward and back is smooth just very sticky

Finished the carbs rebuilt and manual petcock conversion and the bike is running need to get my Mufflers on next. Can?t ride until I figure this out :>)
