alright, so I promised everyone I know that I'd finally race my '72 Honda XL250 this Sunday at the Electric City Riders Memorial Cup-the biggest race of the year, in the vintage TT class. However, it runs terrible. When cold, it runs great. After warming up, wind the throttle and it bogs down. I believe it to be electrical, so I replaced the coil, plug cap, condensor is fine, points I believe are fine (since the issue relates to engine temperature).
My friend at the local British motorcycle shop says I should take a look at the lower ignition coil aka the stator assembly. Only problem is it costs $160 without shipping, and I'd need to get it overnighted in time for the race. Since it's a 6v machine and it's running without the battery, my other option is to run it with a battery total-loss in the race, which would take time to setup and it's not guaranteed either.
Any other thoughts as to the problem at hand would be greatly appreciated. It's got a big bore kit, hot cam, mikuni VM32 round slide carb with the needle at the top notch, 200 size main jet.
