    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Not your average SS bolt kit?

Most of the bolts on my T are already SS, but there are some I'd like to change out. I put allen heads on my carbs, for instance, and to hold in my headlight, but they weren't SS and are rusting which looks horrible and makes me want to do bad things to good people.

Where could I procure replacements? I assume that the normal SS bolt kits don't include these items, and I really don't need a whole kit anyway, as most of the bike has SS already.

Thoughts?
 
My local Ace Hardware has a great selection of Stainless metric. But you can also go online to many large fastner companies and get them, like a couple listed here previously posted by Mr Bwinger.

Order any quantity you want. Cheaper than hardware stores. Reasonable shipping costs, and they ship fast.

Cheapest per piece price if you want a lot of leftovers for your obsessively organized collection of stainless metric allen head stuff...(who, me?) everything comes in larger quantities, usually 50 or 100. Look for "socket head cap screws." McMaster-Carr has lots of other oddball stuff, too.
 
My local Ace hardware has a surprizing array of SS allen head bolts.

We also have a place near work here that specialises in fasteners...it's in a little industrial park..found it in the yellow pages.

And for sure you can order just about anything from McMaster-Carr.

Funny...I was just searching on line for the best bolt kit for my 1100...
 
Local Ace Hardware? You mean you still have one? All our local hardware shops have been replaced by Lowes, which of course doesn't carry metric SS items, let alone in a sufficient quantity to get anything done.

Ridiculous.
 
Oh, and thank you very much. Now I just need to take some of those bolts into Lowes and figure out what sizes they are so I can order online!!
 
Look around for a "Fastenal" brand store. Some people have had poor experience with them, but my local store will order what ever size I need in SS Allen head cap screw and have it in the next 2 days. Usually I have to buy them in packs of 5 or 10 but for most bolts you need several.

Uncle Mike, if you have a tap and die metric set, the little thread gauge will give you the right thread count, and the die will give you the diameter size, then just measure the length with a ruler. The Tap and Die sets are pretty cheap at Harbor freight, or like you said, take them to HD or Lowes. I was going to put in my post that the Aces, and True Values are getting harder and harder to find, I had one about a mile from my house, and Lowes ran them out, now I have to drive way across town to go to one, but it's still worth it!!!
