    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

today was riding my 82 gs1100gk and its been running good till today.i was on my way to town and it acted like it ran out of gas fiddled around with it a bit on the side of the road checked the gas level wich was fine turned the petcock to prime it started fine and ran fine.after i parked for a bit i turned in back to run and it stumbled bad like it was starving for gas till i turned it back to prime then it ran fine so i drove home and parked it till i asked you all if you had any ideas.is my petcock i need of a rebuild/replace or is it in the carbs wich were rebuilt this winter? thanks....Pat
 
Check the vacuum line going to the petcock, make sure its attached and in good shape.

How old is the petcock? If its the original it may be time for a rebuild or replacement. You could try taking it apart and inspecting the diaphragm.

Sounds like the petcock, or possibly the vacuum hose to the carb.
 
From what I've read here and your symtoms I'd say you need a new petcock. Pro's I know he could search but whata' ya' got?

when i did the valves and carbs i replaced all hoses and cleaned the "original" petcock which looked ok at the time but i will double check both issues and go from there.i might as well replace the petcock being its as far as i know the original thanks....Pat
 
Its time for a new petcock. You cant really "clean" or "rebuild" these things sucessfully. A couple guys have had luck, but its fleeting, and generally, they simply wont work right at all after attempting it. You could also be picking up crap in the bottom of the tank, but i would, were i you, replace the petcock. 40 something bucks and you wont have to worry about it for another 20+ years.
 
I don't get why everyone says you can't rebuild a petcock. Did the Japanese sprinkle them with fairy dust at the factory or something?
 
Rebuilding depends on how much corrosion in inside it? If you have the one with the screwdriver slot don't even try - just replace it. The lever one ??
The rebuild kit costs 1/2 the price of a replacement..
 
i no there is nothing in the tank being i had 2 dents pulled out off it by way of uni spotter so i flushed the tank clean.my petcock has the lever but im thinking i might better just buy a new one.will it hurt to ride it with it on the prime position?? id hate not to be riding it and with my luck with shipping who knows when id get the new one.thanks....Pat

No it won't hurt anything. Just make sure to turn it off (turn the lever to on) after you are done riding. If you suspect the petcock is leaking in the on position then clamp the line when you park the bike. That way there is no chance of gas running into engine.
 
Riding with the petcock on prime will not hurt anything, so long as you remember to turn it back to run when you shut off the engine.
