A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY 80 GS1100L AGAIN.

I JUST ADJUSTED THE VALVES AND THE BIKE SEEMED TO RUN FINE EXCEPT........... THERE'S ALWAYS AN EXCEPT.

IT SEEMS TO NOT FIRE ON THE NUMBER TWO CYL. ONLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. SPARK IS GETTING TO THE PLUG AND I CAN'T DETECT A LEAK IN THE PLUG WIRE ANYWHERE.

THE ONLY THING I CAN FIGURE IS THAT I HAVE THOSE VALVES TOO LOOSE.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE ELSE?

THANKS,
FRED

PS THIS BIKE IS FOR SALE IF ANYONES INTERESTED

when the engine is cold...as in...you're using the choke...or cold, just warmed up a few minutes, no choke?

for some reason, soon to be determined, the carbs i'm using only fire 3 cylinders when i'm on full choke. the bike starts and warms up fine this way, i just give it gas and back off the choke and the 4th cylinders starts firing in a few seconds...

Sounds to me like the choke circuit on that cylinder is clogged. You pick up a cylinder when the throttle is advanced because the carbs transition to the fuel pilot jets and air screws and drop out of choke mode. (yes, even though you are still holding the choke lever when twisting the throttle) :-)

Re: number 2 cylinder doesn't fire

Your choke circuit is either clogged, has an air leak around the seals or the pickup tube is blocked. If this is the case, it follows then that your internal passageway for the fuel pilot jet is also blocked.

interesting enough Earl, i've had that set of carbs apart two times. i will investigate when i swap the carbs back to its original engine next week. if anything, it still works.

MY PROBLEM OCCURS EVEN WITH THE CHOKE OFF AND A COLD ENGINE.

# 3 FIRES AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES RUN TIME IF I RIDE IT.
