A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oh dear......

Well finally got the courage to strip the BS32's off the 1981 GS1000E. They haven't been off the bike since it was made from the look of it.

So in I dive.

No1, 2 and 4 's filter were blocked with what looked like fine paper and rust. Pilot jet on No2 and 4 were blocked solid. Rust on all four float bowls and the main needle jets on 2 and 4 were clogged with this fine paper and rust. More worrying was the two large lumps that were inside no 1 carb and I still can't find where that's come from. So I'm happy that they are cleaned and ready to go.

Next, I look at the carb rubbers. They are all cracked and metals showing. Impact driver to hand and off comes no 1 OK. No2 is a little bit more tempremental but comes away. No3 the upper screw comes out but the bottom starts to round. I knock the rubber around and low and behold the screw starts to undo. Stick a screwdriver on it and out it comes.

Then theres no 4. I think I should have given up and waited till tomorrow with this one. Top screw sheared the head off. Bottom screw rounded. I finally cut the upper corner off the rubber to get the rubber to move hoping that the bootom screw would loosen. Not so lucky.

I go back to whats remaining on the top screw. I cut a slot in the stud and turn. Another part of the screw shears off.

Its looking like a push to the local engineering shop to weld a couple of nuts on whats left to get the remained out and try the carbs.

Just hope the head doesn't have to come off......

you have a drill? if so, find the closest bit to the hole in the boot, but slightly smaller, rather than larger, and drill the head, just enough that you pop it loose. say 1/16th of an inch or so. once the head pops loose, the rubber will come right off, and you should be able to grab the remaining bit with a pair of vise grips and spin it out.

Whats vice grips? Don't forget that I'm English........

You wacky brits with your spanners and mole grips and boots and bonnets.

Its a quaint lanuage we all use.

It takes a little bit of getting used too.

Thanks for that. Didn't think to google it either, sorry.
