A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm going to change the Oil and Filter on my gs1000 this weekend, I've decided to take the exhaust off (it's a Motad, it will make things easier to get at and give it a good clean) so I'm going to take the sump off and check the oil strainer while I'm at it. I've got new filter, sump gasket etc.
Is there anything else I could / should check while these bits are off?

Thanks

O ring for the filter cover, Crush gasket for the plug.

Start soaking the exhaust bolts today with PB Blaster.

You might need new zorst gaskets if your old ones have been on a while. If you can clean the Motad up while it's on the bike I'd advise you to do that - they're a bit of a fiddle to get back on.

There is a new O ring with the new filter. Any idea what size the crush gasket is and what it's made from, rubber, nylon?
Is PB Blaster a type of release oil?

I've got some new zorst gaskets, the Motad downpipes come down infront of the filter cover which looks like it will be really awkward with them still on. The Motad also has some "Rust Issues" going on where the downpipes come together that I would like to check and deal with if necessary.
How much of a fiddle are they?

I'll bite what's a zorst gasket?

Cheers,
Spyug

A zorst gasket is for people like me who can't spell exhaust.

Graham, on a PITA scale of 1-10 I'd say Motads were around 7. If you're taking the pipes to bits you need to note (and I recommend mark with pen 'cos I always think I can remember...) which pipe goes in which hole (mark the holes, the pipes should be numbered). When you re-assemble the pipes make sure that they can move freely in the sockets (grease helps) and it's way easier if you've got a mate (or wife) to hold the back end while you sort out the front.

I think you have to put the 2 and 3 in first (or that might be 1 and 4 so not much blo*dy use there!) - you'll see what I mean once you figure it out!

It might just be me, but the bends never seem to 'line up' easily on a Motad.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll number and grease as you suggest.

Yeah, I know he's talking English, but I just don't understand what he's saying. Must be the accent. :-D

Thank you for your indulgence,
