A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I LIKE TO TRY SYNTHETIC BLEND,IS OIL CHANGE AND FILTER STILL 3.2QTS.?I LOST MY MANUAL :?:

It might be stamped next to the filler cap. Otherwise it could have been a decal that was on that filler side of the engine. I'm sure someone here with a similar bike can tell you. :D

My 81 550T takes 2.3 - 2.5 litres, I dont remember exactly. A 650 shouldnt take much more I dont think. The oil capacity should be stamped right by the filler hole, like previously mentioned. Hope this helps out.

It's not a Katana, is it?

I have an '82 GS650G, but I don't have the book here at work. I'll be glad to check it tonight if you don't get an answer today.

I just changed mine and the filter, and I seem to recall that it was more than that.

Del

2.5 lt without filter, with 3.2lt, if it's a Kat your up around 3.6 lt.
But never take this as gospel, put this amount in and check your level.
If it's OK do a quick trip around the block and you will find you have to top it again.

also did anybody try royal purple oil?

Ive heard from numerous people/mechanics/racers that royal purple is the best lube out there. Ask around in your area and see what people say. I have never personally used it because all of my vehicles have either leaked or burned oil.

Well, hell, sorry about that. When I got home last night the phone was ringing. A friend wanted me to help him prep his KZ1000 to try to sell up at Mid-Ohio this week-end (vintage races).

Anyway, we had a beer or three, and I simply forgot to look it up.

But what's writtten above is good.

You must open the third drain plug next to the shift lever to drain it all out. I usually add 3.3 quarts to mine but since i buy the gallon jugs I am not sure. I just make sure it is topped off after I am done and have started it at least once.
