    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

oil coming out periodically where header meets engine??

hello everyone so on my recently purchased 81 gs850 i find its periodically having oil appear on one of the headers and found its coming out where they connect at block,whats likely causing this and if im on a budget should I keep the bike or get rid of it, it seems to run pretty great but obviously something isn't right my dad says it could be something minor his friend says to sell it now so any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Can you post a picture of this oil leak? It could be the tach cable drive seal (very likely), a leaking spot on the cam cover gasket (also suspect), or possibly the spot where the head has an o-ring and it's got a small bolt holding that part to the block. None of these things are hyper expensive and really no reason to get rid of the bike.
 
My leak was from the tach cable housing going into the valve cover (took 4 years to finally to get it to seal back up right) it would spit out just enough oil to drip down on the block and around the header exhaust, not to mention at hiway speeds, it blow up under my gas tank, what a mess that was till I fixed it.
 
Used to have a similar issue on my #4 exhaust flange bolt hole. Not sure if I got caried away when I drilled and helicoiled it or not but I do not believe oil should be able to get there period. I believe it was from my 30 year old valve seals leaking. Has not showed back up since I changed them when rebuilding the motor. I used to have a copper washer jam nutted against the head, lil tricky but possible with the aftermarket header I have. It forced the oil into the pipe. It worked for a few months.
