I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I've got a 1980 GS1100L. I have found an oil cooler and lines off ebay for this bike, with a little modification. All it comes with is lines and cooler. Where does it line into on the bike? Is this worth doing? (Can you provide) any links to a complete system? (Is there) someone (who) has one they (want to) part with? Let me know. Thanks.

Hi Mr. 1980gs1100l,

If I'm not mistaken, you have a 16-valve motor. The oil lines should attach in the lower front of the motor using special adapters on the oil filter cover. You'll need parts from a similar motor that came from the factory with an oil cooler installed. Is yours an aftermarket part, like a Derale or Lockhart? An oil filter cover from an 1150 should work. I think you can still get those new. If your oil pressure send unit is on top of the crankcase behind the cylinders, terry's adapter should would for you too. A search of the forum turned up this thread:

The GS line of bikes don't need an oil cooler unless you plan to ride at low speeds in high heat. Using synthetic oil is a good hedge for those concern with heat damage but can't really justify the cost or complexity.

If you have a 16 valve just get an 1150 oil filter cover and tap into the two bolts directly under the filter cover.

The GS1150 oil cooler is a bolt-on plug and play adaptation to the 16-valve TSCC motor. The motor has plugs on the upper front of the engine,
as the stock 1150 lines, brackets, and oil filter cover will bolt-on nicely.
It is cleaner and easier than attaching the lines to the filkter cover.

I've done this on my GS1100esd and it works great. There is a difference in the oil filter cover as they look identical, but the 1150 stock cover has
an internal restrictor that redirects most of the oil through the oil lines of the external oil cooler and some through the engine. This is so if the oil cooler becomes clogged, some ol will still pass-through and not seize your motor.

:D

Uh maybe im not following you guys i was only a "c" student anyway so do i need to get the oil filter cover for an 1150 or use the plugs that are in the front of the engine on each side of the filter cover btw its a hayden unit thanks again

Hi,

I thought Bill was pretty clear. :)
