If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Oil filter

I'm having Trouble locating locally an oil filter for my 1980 GS750E.
Last filter I put on was many years ago and it was a Purolator ML16801.
What is everyone using for this bike and do you have to order and have it shipped,
or are you finding it locally.

Appreciate the help.

I've never had much luck finding filters locally. I ended up buying a handful of WIX 24931 filters from Amazon. The chain auto parts store don't stock them, and the local dealerships are far enough away it's just easier for me to order them online.

Depending on your feelings about brands, the O'Reillys stores around here stock the Fram CH6000.

Comes with o-rings for the cover for the 8-valve and 16-valve engines, too. :encouragement:

.

Any Napa store will have the correct filter (Napa's house brand is Wix, very high quality) or can get it the next day.

Any town with paved streets should have a Napa store.

Advance Auto usually has the Fram filters. I'd grab a couple when I saw them on the shelf.

Just my opinion, Fram is the worst quality filter made. Google it, many others agree. Last one I bought was for my 2.5 Passat. When I changed it it was completely collapsed and looked like an hourglass instead of the cylinder it was when it went in. I order K&N from Amazon in the morning, get them in the afternoon. They are Chinese but seem to be good quality. As previously stated, Wix is at\near the top of filter tests consistently.

BTW my Passat gets OEM VW filters and VW spec oil now. Built in USA, great car....

Bob, I never seemed to have a problem with the Fram and I ran them for 15 years on the 1100. No deforming or mysterious stuff found in the pan. I have a few K&N and Royal Purple that came with the new Bandit but I'll see if Wix has one that will fit it.

Many Thanks for all the responses.
lotsa good ideas and information.

BTW, the main road through our town is paved, and we have a NAPA store there.
They couldn't find the WIX 51220 in their system.
so they tried using "1980 Suzuki GS750E".
None of the stores in their system has it.

This weekend I'll be going into town and will check out Wally World.
If all else fails, I see Partszilla has original Suzuki 16510-45040 oil filters for reasonable.

Thank you all for the help. Much appreciated.

The filter lookup on the WIX web site says my 1978 GS750E uses filter 24931. I looked up your 1980 and they say it uses filter 24932, not 51220.

I tried to look up 51220 on their web site and they say it's discontinued. You might check with NAPA again and see if they have 24932.

Here's the WIX filter lookup page: http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/filterlookup.aspx
In the field where it says Vehicle Lookup choose Motorcycle, then it will walk you through the rest of it.

Good catch, Dave. Very good catch! I was going by the cross reference list on the box my Purolator Precision Motorcycle oil filter came. But now that I read the very fine print under the cross references list on the box it says "May not be a direct cross reference - refer to the catalog...........". I'll check with my NAPA store, again.

I've used the Fram, OEM and K&N oil filters, never had a problem with any of them in 37 years.
