DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My 550 currently has an emgo oil filter installed and the 1000 came with two spare emgo filters. It's oil changing time. Should I use the emgos or should I look for something higher quality (if so what?)

Re: oil filters

I have used Emgo oil filter in every bike I have had. My 1100 and 1150 are running with one now. Never any problems with them. Once I find a good thing, I tend to stick with it. :-)

Stay away from FRAM filters in any event. Bottom of the barrel in consumer reports.

Cool! They're good filters and they're cheap too! That's a rare combination :)

Thats a great link!

I was planning on buying bulk fram , but NO WAY now!!!

I was thinking probably Vesrah, or Emgo, as they seem good quality, for good price.

My local guy has K&N oil filters on hand all the time. Suprisingly, they aren't really that much pricier than anything else I have found. I'm sure they aren't any better either, but regardless, I've been sticking with 'em.

I was wondering whether the quality would differ that much for the filter on my 850, which is the cartridge type, as opposed to canister.

fram still has the metal endcaps, but theyre other stuff inspires no confidence.

I have run Fram filters for years in my vehicles, and have been using them on my 450 and have had no trouble with them what so ever. I do change my oil and filter on my bike after a 1000miles or so and 3000miles on my vehicles.

Our filters are not ike the cartarage type tested I have used The CH6000/6001 fram type for years & it works fine

yeah, ive got the ch6000 in now....that article just scared me. it didnt look bad going in, so i guess they make these higher quality :)

I can always tell when a car has a Fram filter on the engine, that tell tale sound of valve train rattle when they start up. Fram will bypass the element with as little as 10 lbs of pressure. They only work at idle. paper components inside and the smallest filter area ( less than 40 sq inches) compared to purolator( with 64 sq inches). Instant leak down when you shut the engine off, they put a grippy surface on the filter and claim to reinvent the oil filter.

Champion brands sold out to allied signal years ago and ruined Fram as a company.

I like HiFlo. The HF133 comes with 2 o-rings, one to fit my 750, and the other fits my 1100! :D
