oil for performance motors,

ok I know most of you are using Rotella 15w40 in street bikes, but what about performance built motors ??
I use royal purple in my Harley, pushing 112 hp, and 108 fpt, little over stock , wondering about using it ,in a gs1100e ?
what do you find works best ?

Royal Purple certainly won't hurt anything (except for your wallet), but I have no doubts that Rotella will do the job as well.

As for the "performance" part of the engine build, I might be more inclined to go with the T-6 synthetic, but it probably won't matter.

Of more importance than the oil type is the oil feed for the 1100E. Using 750 pump gears and a top end oiler seems to be a popular mod. Along with an oil cooler. The valve train seems to be the weakness of that engine in terms of wear thus the reason for the oiler. I'd be sure to run a high ZDDP oil, and many of the modern motorcycle oils have reduced ZDDP now because new bikes run a catalyst just like cars. I'm frankly not sure what to recommend. Penngrade maybe, if you can find it for a halfway decent price. Reading over on Bob Is The Oil Guy doesn't bring much love for Royal Purple. If I had a Harley I'd run some type of V2 oil on the market (Penngrade or Vavoline for example). That stuff has something like 1800 ppm ZDDP which is just what the doctor ordered for those engines. I think that stuff is too thick for a GS bike though unless you only ride when it's warm outside since it's 20W-50.

Brad Penn is the original old formula Kendall GT green oil & there is NOTHING better!! Falicon even recommends it for all roller bearing cranks. Royal Purple is GARBAGE!!!

+2 Brad Penn ,great for our Gs machines at any level of tune, But for what it is worth I use Spectro ATV 5W-30 in my dragbike since 2010. and regular spectro motorcycle 10w- 30 or 40 in the street bike . having heard about batch blending and not pipe transfer changes ,, I like to know what is in the oil contaier is the product I am buying.

+1. We used the original stinky green GT-1 in our Offshore boats, oil temp in those regularly hit 300 AFTER the seawater oil cooler. You could take the motor apart a year later and the oil was still stuck to the piston skirts. Anything that smells that bad has to be good. About $75 a case. The best Dino oil bar none, it's the additive package that makes the difference.

Given that this forum is much read outside the US - where Brad Penn is seldom available - I'll endorse Spectro.
All my race engines go out of here with Spectro 20/50 in them.
No problems with built up cams either.

This is turning into a oil thread.....Ive used Casrol GT-1 from back in the day, Golden Spectro, Honda semi-sythenic, Amsoil, Rotella t4,t5 and t6 and some I have probably forgotten. I have no doubt what so ever that all the oils mentioned here are great oils. I roadraced bikes for 8 years 3 of them on a GS1100. It had 750 pump gears and an oil cooler run off the oil pressure sensor plate. I had 1 oil related failure in 3 years that included 3 5hr endurance races. In one race we neglected to checked the oil level the whole race. Bike ran hard all 5 hrs. When we changed the oil there was about a quart left and some serious damage. Moral off the story, if anybody thinks they can run stock or slightly modified bikes on the street and have oil related issues you have way to much time on your hands. Use good oil that and change it often. Thanks for the tip on the Rotella rebate
