hi everyone. I had a problem last week with my startor on my 1981 gs550. When i removed the starter i noticed that the shaft had worn away the starer housing where the splines are. This caused the windings to drift and rub off the magnets. I left the starter off to be repaired and refitted to the bike. When i tried to start the bike i noticed the starter was running in the wrong direction. I contacted the repair company and have to bring the starter back. My problem is when i removed the housing that covers the alternator, i noticed alot of oil in there! the windings are attachted to the back of the casing and they were soaking with oil! Is this normal to have an electrical alternator and windings soaking in oil?? Any help would be great.
