I'm working on a '79 GS850. I took off the valve cover to adjust the valves, noticed that there was some leakage around one of those plastic end caps. The previous owner must also have noticed it, he had gooped it up pretty good with that blue silicone stuf on the outside of it. I went ahead and bought new caps. When I put them in, they seemed pretty snug. I also got one of those Real Gaskets for the seal under the cover. Now I've got everything back together, started up the bike, and that's where it leaks oil, right around the end caps.
I'm going to recheck the cover and the torque used (I used the values from Real Gasket, which are on the light side). Should I use a liquid gasket material around the caps? Anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks guys
Mike
