    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil level

OK, all you experts. I have a 1980 GS1100E with an aftermarket oil cooler on it. When the motor is off, the oil in the sight glass is well above the ?F? line. When I start the engine the oil is sucked up into the motor and in to the oil cooler and the oil falls to exactly to the ?L? line. My question is; should I fill the oil to somewhere between the ?F? and ?L? while it is running or leave it alone.
 
Leave it alone, when the bike is running the oil level will disapear, like there is no oil. It should be checked with both wheels on the ground and the bike level. I usually leave it in gear on the side stand and pull the bike up level while watching the sight glass to see what the level is
 
Like cars, the oil level is measured while the motor is off. All that extra oil disapears around the motor etc.

I have an oil cooler on my 2V 1000.
If I fill it according to specs, it shows low, like right on the line.
I generally run it towards the F or full line.
No problems, clutch hooks up, hasn't blown any oil back and nothing out the pipe.
 
the manual states to check oil level with the bike on level ground on the center stand, level should be between the add and full marks, full being preferred.
 
I had been checking my level with both wheels on the ground and not getting stellar shifting until I saw that in the manual. Checking the level on the center stand for me gives good shifting results, and I haven't seen any other problems from it.
