    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil Window

Okay, my paranoia has gottent the best of me. I spend almost all of the time on my bike wondering if the oil levels are correct or not. The reason being is that the oil window on the bottom of the engine is soo dirty (inside and out it would appear) that I cannot see if there is any oil there or not.

About four weeks ago, I overfilled (long story.. can read it here ) with oil and it was a mess to clean up. Now, I've been changing the oil every saturday. That way, even with leaks, I know it has oil.

I'd rather just be able to check the window and confirm that I'm not going to burn up my engine. Is there any way of cleaning it (inside & out) without taking the engine apart?
 
I have the same problem. I took of the clutch cover that the window is in and cleaned it with a que tip, I couldn't re-use my gasket as I believe it was the original, but some people say you can. Worked like a charm and the cover is rather easy to get off with an impact screwdriver.

Patrick, just wanted to point out that the fancy graphic you have on the bottom of the page makes the page get VERY wide and to read your words, you have to scroll across...


anyway, to clean the oil sight glass, you have to buy a new clutch cover gasket and take the clutch cover off. First drain the oil so do this at your next oil change. Anyway, once off, there is a bit of very coarse mesh type stuff over the glass on the inside. Use q-tips and some cleaner that won't hurt plastic... the orange cleaner works well... you can also put a piece of paper towel in under the mesh and move it around some with something blunt to get all residue off the inside.

Sorry about that. Since I don't have a digital camer personally, when I convinced a co-worker to snap a couple of shots of my bike for me I went crazy with The Gimp. I shortened it up considerably... hopefully it's not an issue anymore.

Even that doesn't sound too bad. I thought that more would have to come off to take the clutch cover off. Thank you very much for the info.
