    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I called my pro-wrench's shop this afternoon to check that they had fork seals for the 550. The girl on the counter asked me what model of 550 it was. I said 1983 550 E but why does that matter? Well there are apparently 3 different seals for models 1983 through 1986 and they are different between E, ED and EF models. I did not know that and the manual makes no mention of it that I can see.

I thought the 550s,750s, 850s all used the same seal (37mmx49mmx9.5mm) but now it doesn't look like it, unless she is totally confused.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

I know for a fact that Suzuki would use common parts between models and give them all different part numbers. This may be what you're running into.
 
Well now, not to seem like an expert, but I know for a fact- my 450 GSA "Suzukimatic" has diffo diameter fork seals than the other GS 450s of the same time frame. (yep, found out the costly hard way.)

Well I've looked at parts fiches from north America and Europe and they are identical for all models of 550 from 83 to 86 so I'm not sure what the gal was referencing. I'm going down in the morning to grab a set and I think I'll be ok since I have one of the old ones out of the parts bike to compare to.

I'll let you know what I find out.
