    A Special Note about Email accounts!
    DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I picked up a GS850 last week. On top of the battery compartment, the guys has a soft rubber "air vent" that seems to take air from the front top and direct it to the bottom rear.

Sort of like :

............... ||
..................======
............................||

(periods are there to preserve formatting) . It's about the size of the battery box itself. I can understand shielding the battery from any shorts with a rubber top, but I can't understand the air system...there's can't be much air coming in (under the seat) and there's really nothing where the air comes out to cool.

Is this a standard part, and is it where it should be? Or is this just something a previous owner stuck there to insulate the battery?

Thanks,

Dave

on a limb here..
if its soft rubber and is about battery size..
does it have any(like) rubber pins on one side?
my bike is differnt than youres but im thinking its a peice that sits on a peice of metal in front of the frame kinda under the petrol tank..
but youre description is a bit vauge..mine has a small hole in it about 3/4 inch big.
just had a look it goes over the carb. but on the frame.
give us a bit better of a description..

piccy ?

piccy ?

what the gent. cant possibly carry his whole bike into his house to get a piccy..

ohh how about taking just the part in to get a piccy?

ohh yeah thats an idea!

just a bit of a laugh..

Only thing on top of my 81 GS850G battery is a plastic/rubber tray that holds the tool kit. Sets right behind the fuel tank. Front of tray is sculpted to fit frame and sides also sculpted to go around the frame rails. Have you checked online parts lookup to see if you can find it?

Sounds like a substitute for the battery hold down... the real air intake is the snorkel on the back of the airbox.

A battery hold down strap is maybe $1.50 from Suzuki...

A photo would help. See if you can work in a bikini babe, too.
