Omaha Tire Mounting???

Anyone have a great shop that will mount tires bought elsewhere that is in the Omaha, Nebraska area. I would prefer to take the bike in...not just the wheels...so Neb Motorcycle parts is out.

PS...I sold the 750E (the orange one) last week...now I am done to the 850G and it is going to a buyer in KC next month. Guess it is time to start shooping for that 1100/1150E I have always wanted:>)

Hi Mr. racer4kw,

It's quite possible that you will end up paying more in labor than for the tires if you have someone else remove and replace your wheels. The local shop where I get my tires will mount and balance for free if you buy the tires there and bring in your wheels. For me, that's a pretty good deal.

I'm with BassCliff, but we use the same parts store. I'm guessin $150-200 to mount on bike from a shop. Internet is not always the cheapest. Except if you mount your own.

Yep, that will just about double the cost of putting on a set of Hi-Max tires. But that's cheaper than other places I've heard about.

My neighbor takes his Harley into the dealer for every oil change. Sometimes I really have to bite my tongue when we talk about our motorcycles.

But if you don't want to hassle doing it yourself and you can afford to pay someone else, then kudos to you. I don't mind taking off my own wheels but I haven't gotten around to trying to mount my own tires yet. Those lash strips look like they could make it a lot easier. We'll see.

I found a local indy shop that specializes in old bikes (what a find he actually knows what he's doing!) he did my last set for 20 each off the bike that's balance and all. At that price, I probably won't wrestle with one.

A local shop I bought my last set for the 1100E from did them for $20 each, off the bike. I believe that it was around $50 each end on the bike. I don't know if they will install tires not purchased through them.

I have now found a local independent tire guy who will sell, mount and balance new tires for less than I bought the last set for. I will be using him for a couple of new tires in the near future, hopefully he is as good as advertised. I will be happy to support a local individual like that if he does quality work.

Oh yeah, for $20 a tire, I wouldn't pick up an iron either. There is way too much grunting and swearing involved to save $20 per tire.

This guy has 15 or 20 old bikes out back including an 850G, but he won't sell parts off them, wants to sell as whole bikes. The last time I was in there he had an OLD BMW, a Harley, an old Honda Trail 70, a Nighthawk, and some kind of I think UJM motor on a chopper frame that he was working on. I found him when looking for valve shims locally. He's the guy that told me he had seen multiple GS engines run out of oil with the lower end still intact. Roller bearing are where it's at.

There is a bike repair shop on N 61st st. (Maple or Military I think) that'll do that for you. I've never used them but how bad can they be? As another option...If you need help getting the rear wheel off the FJR I could stop by. RJ

Dang, I must be a lucky guy...for years I've taken my wheels to my local Hon/Yam/Tri/Duc/Guz dealer and had them mount and balance their tires for 20 bucks +the tire, and they are quite reasonable on the tires.
Plus they have an old British/Italian/flat track bike museum on site. Nice eye candy.

Or, I order the tires from a friend who runs an indy shop and ride to his house..when we're done break out the shootin' irons!

I don't blame a shop for not wanting to mount tires bought at their shop. They don't know the tire(s) broght to them. Too many liability problems these days.
