A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Gave away my antique mercury-filled unit before my last house move. Now I'm getting ready to buy a new one.

Not sure about the steam-gauge (dial) type. I have a vac gauge for diagnosing car stuff and it bounces around a lot.

I've read good things about the British-made CarbTune kit. http://www.carbtune.com/ They are advertising it direct from the UK for under $100 shipped, which is cheap compared to what these usually cost, but still a little more than I'd like to spend.

Any other recommendations?

I looked at some others but bought the Carbtune based on everyone's recommendations here...only ran me about $107 shipped

I definitely highly recommend the Morgan CarbTune Pro. Although like some others I'm not too crazy about the included plastic taps, but will get some brass taps the next time I order from Z1. I guess check ebay and see what you can find. I do not recommend the Motion Pro mercury-free (blue fluid) one.

Carb Tune is hands down the GSR favorite. Tons of threads in the archives expound on how superior it is to current available choices.

Ok, searched the archives and looks like Carbtune is the unit of choice. Made doubly attractive by the poor performance of the British pound lately.

Found BassCliff's webpage (of course!) for synchronizing carbs.

Does anybody know which size wrench is needed? I never bothered with the fancy tool when I was younger, but now that I'm old and rich...
(actually old and in debt!)

Dang it, Ed, you keep reminding me to search the archives first. If I do that, how will I ever get up to 5000 posts and become a GSR Sage or whatever? :D

The archives is full of ideas on how to inflate your post count.;) Or you can be like me and bark out instructions to all the newbies and/or tell them to stop being lazy and use the search feature.:D

Naw, too lazy to bark at newbies. Been on the Busa forum for 4 years now and I'm only up to 2,500 or so. Some of my posts were even useful. LOL!

Wrench size for what? The adjustment lock nut is 8mm on my bike, but YMMV.

Yeah, that's pretty handy. One came with my used CarbTune that I bought from a member here :) Not much help reaching that center nut though  I keep that one pliers-tight.

That tool will reach the adjuster on some GS models, but not all (and I can't remember which is which).

Hi,

I bought my Carbtool from Morgan when I bought my Carbtune. I got them at the same time to save shipping. The MotionPro tool is good too.

The 11" long screwdriver slips out of the nut adjusting shaft

The Carbtool is for older bikes that have an adjuster screw held by a locknut. The Carbtool has an 8mm socket to tighten the locknut.
Down the centre of the tool runs a long screwdriver to hold the adjusting screw stready while you tighten the nut.
The screwdriver has a 280mm (11") shaft.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
