Never heard of a Rifle fairing. What's it look like? Probably not interested in buying. Just curious.

I don't know if it was made by Rifle, but it looks like ones I have seen from them in the past.

I like the red one better. It looks more period correct to me. The smoke fairing is nice, but looks a bit "Darth Vader-ish". The red one flows better with the bodylines of the bike. I think it will be more noticeable once you put the turn sigs on. My 2 cents.

+1 for the red!
Tony.

Well, Tom, now that we're three pages in it's clear that the second one is the one you should definitely choose ... IF, like I said before, you were serious about wanting a unique look. It seems like almost everyone prefers the look of the red one BECAUSE it looks like it might have come with the bike. That doesn't equal "unique" to me.

Anyway, just an observation based on what you originally said you were going for... I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever one you decide to go with.

Regards,

I'm with Planecrazy on this one.

The red one looks like it was made for the bike. Suits the lines and feel of the bike well.

The second one is definitely unique, but doesn't look as good on the bike as the first one.

Your call.

Oh yeah. I was after one of those on ebay. It was orange, very orange. I had the high bid going, but someone sniped it in the last few seconds (maybe that was you?).

Thanks for the pics.

Well now your logic can't be argued with. Consensus does favor the red one, which makes the Tracy unique. The truth of the matter is...I LIKE 'EM BOTH!

Getting feedback from everyone helps me make a decision. The Tracy has some sweet lines, is functional, and allows easy maintenance to the front end. The red one is...well...red.

Now I'm gonna keep you all in suspense. You'll have to wait until spring to see what rolls out of the garage.[-(

Nope, it came off of a friend's SV650. It was on there when he purchased it two seasons ago. It's a neat little fairing, just not for me...

A couple of things/ideas.
As brought up, try them both, which one actually works ? And at speed.

One other point, some deflect wind down towards your legs, creating cold there, where before there was none. Or will allow the rain to now hit you square in the faceshield.

The red fairing looks similar to the one Yamaha offered in the mid 80's on their 900cc shaft...called a Diversion overseas, I forget what the called it here, Saca ? maybe? The 650 Seca had a BIG 8" headlight.......

Me. I'd try them both for a bit and then decide.
Just looking, the red one "looks" better.

The 400 Bandit had the big reflector, too. I thought I saw it in an old issue of BIKE but, nope, not there. I'll run across it somewhere, I know I've seen that red one before.

The first one ( red one definatly looks better. The other one dosnt look like it belongs at all

A vote for the red one, I think it looks really good. Not so hot on the Tracy, looks just stuck on. And, just because everyone likes something, it doesn't mean it is not unique. Popularity and uniqueness are different things. Just like if you had a hot rod you built, it can be unique and still very popular with crowds at the shows, and usually because it IS unique.

I don't like either one.....

I don't like either one.....

Too small to do any good, why screw up the looks of the bike?
Especially when you have such a sweet bike to begin with.
The second one looks like the Martians in the latest "War of the Worlds" movie, the first one looks like it came off a nineties something kids tricycle.
The motorcycle itself really is nice.

I have the exact same Tracy on my 650g and like it. It gives enough protection to keep the air off the chest yet isn't too high to cause helmet buffeting.
I originally was going to go naked but had this shield in the garage from another bike and gave it a go last fall when it started getting cold. I removed it for about a week in summer but put it back on. On my bike it seems to make the bars and seat arrangement about perfect. Without it, I would have wanted the bars farther forward.
Can't really give a good high speed review since I haven't had bike over 85 much (only a 650) but it didn't seem to cause any troubles.
As for looks, well, it isn't the greatest.

I think the red fairing was a Suzuki catalog item for the Bandit 400 4 cylinder model. I could be wrong.

I like the second one, but then I'm kinda fond of the Tracy mystique. I also think the second one will 'work' where the first looks cute.

You may be right but I had one of those on my first GS1000 and got it from here :-

I have bought a scaled down version of the Cooley fairing from biffo on the oldskool forum and its about the same size the red one.

Mark...
