A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am looking to overhaul my gs550l Probably going to need:
Rings
Bearing
Head Gasket
Exaust Seals
maybe a new a new clutch since a will In there,
Instead of buying engine gaskets was going to use form a gasket Good/Bad Idea?
Was wondering if anyone has done this and where they got their parts. How expensive it was? Or other recommendations. Thanks Greg

You are going to go to all that trouble, then skimp on gaskets? :-k

May you get what you deserve.

You are going to have to get real gaskets for the base and head, along with a few others that form-a-gasket simply will not do. Those gaskets bought individually will cost just about as much as a full kit. Please go with REAL, ORIGINAL-QUALITY gaskets and save yourself a LOT of grief. :o

.

I cut my own side cover gaskets to save a few bucks. Use a hole punch for the screw holes. Works great.

Purchasing the Suzuki branded gaskets is VERY expensive. You can get a complete aftermarket gasket set for the price of a head and base gasket alone. Vesrah gaskets seem to have a pretty fair reputation - better than Athena if you purchase a kit.

Regarding price, it's going to cost plenty, too much considering the value of the bike. Unless you love the bike it may not be economically responsible. That said, I say GO FOR IT! Post lots of photos so we can all live vicariously through you.:)

Well this motor is knocking pretty badly so it either spend money or throw away a 800 dollar bike that I bought last year.

I just threw a 550 motor over to the scrap scroungers over the weekend. Damn shame that. You might want to check ebay for a complete engine.

I've got a good clutch and some cams if you want them.

Good luck with your project.

Don't still have the rack of carbs, do ya ness?

Have the carbs but there is corrosion damage inside so decided against rebuilding them. Have some good parts though if you happen to have VM carbs. Check my For Sale listing for details.
