A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

paint/leather/chrome cleaning products

anyone recommend a good bang for your buck cleaning product for my bike, i dont mean a cheap product i just dont want to get something overpriced for a little more of a shine, just looking for quality

Lucas Slick Mist, they call it wax, but I just use it for everything, Spray it on & wipe it off. Paint, chrome exhaust, face shields, windshields, seats, wheels. That's just me.

Turtle wax chrome cleaner is good. The wax is fine too although it's not as durable as more modern sealant products. There are some nice clear wax type products that are nice. Wash your bike with soap and water and then spray on the clear stuff while the bike is wet followed by towel drying. Works great.

..recently, I've been using a "simple" hair shampoo to wash the bike.

Autosol($$$ but still the best metal polish...), plain ol' Turtle wax applied by hand to paint and wherever, Simoniz Plastic Restorer for the black plastic bits and gauges at handlebars and the rear fender plastic, Novus for plexi and polycarbonate ("Lexan,Lucite etc.) clear windshields...vinyl seats are still an open question for me: these don't want to end up slippery! so cleaning them with shampoo and water and protecting from strong sunlight is the first thing...any protectant is coming off onto your pants.

There are substitutes that work ok but need a bit od research as to what they might "attack...as in "Pledge" is also useful but as above, not on seats...Brasso, even as a cheapo.

Not much survives the frontal attack of road dirt, the beating uv of strong sun and general useage overall...(hot exhaust chrome) so it's ongoing. Be aware the backside of chrome fenders is being ravaged by whatever the tires fling...

I'll agree with the turtle wax chrome cleaner, $2 a bottle at Wally world. If I had a newer bike with pristine chrome maybe I'd go with something a bit less agressive grit wise but it does a great job on my bike. As to washing I use Pine Sol, the same thing I use as a degreaser. It's cheap and does everything I want it to do. As to wax, whatever's on the shelf at the surplus store works fine. There's no fancy clear coat to worry about and anything you find there is going to be a newer formulation than anything that was available when the bike was new.
