A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

looking at a part with 49001 as second part of part number, would like to know whether it fits my bike which has 49000 as it's number, anyone know what model 49001 refers to?

Don't think it works that way. Check the part number where used application as available on sites like Partzilla.

It could be a minor difference that no one would notice or it could be an entirely different part. No way to know.

There are a few things, like fastener sizes, you can sometimes derive from part numbers, but this isn't one of them.

You can cross-reference part numbers on most parts websites, but it's not very obvious.

Punch in the whole part number here (or your favorite purveyor of Suzuki gubbins):
https://www.onlinecycleparts.com/oemparts/c/suzuki/parts

When you get the result, click "where used" and it will show you a list of the models that use that part.

If there are several links that come up, you may have a part that's been consolidated and superceded, so click each of the "Where Used" links to get the full list.

For example, if you try the current head gasket part number for an 83 GS850, 11141-49410, you'll find six "Where Used" links, and find that five or six part numbers have been superceded by the new part number. (Yes, the same head gasket is now used for all the 8-valve GS850, GS1000, and GS1100 engines. Seems weird, but it works fine.)

What's the rest of the part number? :-k

If we know what the part is AND what bike you are talking about, we might know what the changes were.

It might have been as simple as a different finish or a different supplier, it's hard to say without knowing what it is.

11360-49001 chain cover for side of a gs1000 engine,, i've googled it and it doesn't come up, alpha sports say no longer available, it may even be a superceeded number?

Now that I know what part you are talking about, I can only verify that that cover is for all the chain-driven 1000s. Can't find the 11360-49001 anywhere, though. Thought it might be from the 1000 shafties, but that is 11360-49100.
