    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Performance cam tappet clearance spec?

I have always wondered why is the aftermarket cam tappet clearance (valve lash) spec different than suzuki OEM tappet clearance specification? Case in point for the GS1000 2V, Suzuki specifies a tappet clearance of .001 to .003 inches (.03 to .08 mm). The Andrews S1 cam along with every other Andrews suzuki cam manufactured specifies .004 to .006" inches of valve lash, cold. Anyone know the reason why? I have always set the S1 valve lash in the range of .004 to .006" and never had any problems. Just trying to understand the logic of the performance cam manufacturers specs. You would think suzuki would know best on a tolerance specification

Also curious what is the valve lash for Web's, Yosh Stage I or III & Mega cams?

I think it has more to do with the ramp profile of the camshaft lobe than anything else. I would go by the cam mfg specs
 
You can always run a little tighter if the recommended is noisier than you like. Dan
 
Yeah the #1 intake valve is fairly noisey but that could be the bucket though too? Not sure. So does tight valve lash equal a burnt valve because the valve has less contact or perhaps no contact with the valve seat and thus no heat transfer?

Anyone care to comment about the other cams mentioned?
 
I couldn't imagine .001 clearance. As soon as the motor warms up the valve would be hanging open.
