    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My stupid petcock is dripping... I bought a rebuild kit, cleaned all the parts and put it all back together and it still dripping. Its the kind of petcock that only has a on/res option (no off position). From what I hear is that gas should stay in the tank and move only if the engine is turned over or running. I am at a loss. I took it apart a few times and can't figure out whats not sealing. Any ideas? Did I miss something...
 
The rebuild kit diaphragm might be just slightly a different size than the original or may have incorrectly been seated. Just a thought...

When disassembling the petcock, the last part you pull our/remove is the plunger. On the end of that plunger there is fitted an "O" ring. It is not uncommon for the "O" ring supplied in rebuild kits to be slightly undersize (thickness) and consequently, you can assemble everything correctly and it will still leak just as badly as before. Replace that "O" ring.

I just took the assembly apart, again... Then looked to see if the o-ring was seating & sealing and it's not! I am now on the way to the hardware store to get a bigger o-ring. Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. This is by far the most helpful website I have ever found!

I have been to hell and back looking for a bigger O-ring (2 autopart stores/3 hardware)... Does anyone know where (online) I can find one???

The O Ring point is a good one - we've notice this problem with some kits. However, often the problem is wear / corrosion on the seat in body of the petcock - in these cases putting new seals and O rings doesn't always solve the problem. Sometimes it is possible to dress this surface and get it smoother - but often the petcocks just cannot be effectively repaired.

o ring, o my...

I went out and found an o ring that was just a shade larger (od). I then stretched out the spring a little and put it all back together for the 80th time and it works! I think the big factor was not so much the o ring but the spring. I think the o ring wasn't sealing because it was not being pushed hard enough by the spring. I could be wrong but I don' care cause it now seals. Thank you to everyone in helping me solve this issue.
