DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Also is there supposed to be an actuall lever on these of just supposed to use a flathead all the time?

thanks

If you do a few searches for the infamous 1980 petcock, you'll learn all (and more) than you ever wanted to know. Welcome to the club!!:)

Fortunately, you'll also find the solutions!!!

Ah crap hole. :( Not really what i was looking for.

Thanks guys :)

If the slot is (--) it is on run. If it is (|) it is on prime. Prime on these POS petcocks still need a shot of vacuum to flow.
I bought a Pingel.

I did a search and came across this thread. I'm working on a 1980 GS 850 L with the crummy "no lever" petcock, the kind you can only turn with a screwdriver. The fiches for brand new OEM parts show the model "T" 1980 850 L petcock with no lever (PN 44300-47270), but it appears that the petcock for the next model year "X" 81 850 L does have a lever to move from PRI and the two other positions (PN 44300-45372). Are the gas tanks are the same? If so, why can't I just buy a new '81 petcock and put it on the '80 fuel tank? That way I have the movable lever. Thanks for your help.

The distance between the mounting holes is different between the 1980 petcock and the later ones. They don't line up.

So Griffin, you have a lot of 1980 gear. Do you recommend buying the 1980 oem petcock, or did you buy something else?

I would love to have a petcock with a lever too! Something about having to use a SCREWDRIVER as a LEVER doesnt seem right. I mean i know it was the eightys and all but common!!

So anyone with other options for replacements would be great!

I know of a few guys that made their own mounting plates to accept a different model or even make, but thats too complicated to me :)

There must be an easy answer.

The 1980 GS1000G doesn't use the standard Suzuki petcock, it has a very large lever, and as such is better than the later ones. Here is (a very dirty) one on ebay to illustrate:

For the 550, I went ahead and bought a new OEM style petcock to replace the old one. On that particular bike, there is so little space between the tank and the engine that I really had no choice. I couldn't find anything else with that low a profile.
