petcock question

I just got a new fiberglass tank along with petcocks from Benjies Cafe Racers. I'm concerned that the outside of the tank under the petcock seal will start to corrode before long. Its just a coat of gloss paint over fiberglass. BCR told me to use aluminum washer and to cover the outside area of the tank under the petcock with some kind of sealer and that should do the trick. Any one have any advice on this besides "don't use fiberglass"?

ethenol will eventually breakdown fiberglass. thats why they seal the inside of the tank. But the leaks usually occur at the junction of the petcock/tank.

The people who built the tank can't offer any more specific advice than "some kind of sealer"?

If you need something that's thin and flexible, Hylomar would work.

RTV obviously won't work, along with just about anything you'll find in an auto parts store. Epoxies get very hard and brittle, so that's probably not what you need either.

The inside of the tank was coated with caswell sealer. im going to contact them to see if that is what I should use on the outside.
