A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is there an internal nut or something to the petcock? I have one bolt out and the other is just spinning endlessly. I tried to pry under it while backing the bolt out, but no joy. I'm guessing theres an internal nut or something that's broken loose and spinning?

Yeah probably. Never heard of that happening but there's always first. I'd think you can probably hold the bolt with a wrench and drill the head off to remove the petcock. Then hopefully the bolt shank and nut will fall into the tank where you can remove it and then braze a new nut to the tank. Just a thought.

Well, that's a bit of a bummer, but at least I'm not doing a restoration. I'll probably just get another tank, I pretty much had planned on it at this point, just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something obvious, thank you.

My guess is if the nut as come away from the tank there is more likely a rust issue in the tank as well. Very common with these old GSs and would require de-rusting the inside and lining it with a sealer like POR-15 or equivalent.

I can see that it is less than stellar internally, which is why I was pulling the pet cock anyway, so it's probably just as well.

no nuts in my tank... The tank has threaded holes. I think Someone stripped yours and then somehow got a nut on inside. Maybe you can re-tap the hole to a larger size once you cut the bad bolt off and shake it out of the tank.

Brilliant, damn kids. Since it's the wrong tank anyway, that doesn't really surprise me.

I have perfect 82 1100E tank if that’ll work.

I ordered one last night, but thank you. At this point, any tank will work. I'm not in any real rush, riding season is over in Michigan, but it's pretty important for mocking up my seat and hoop, which is important to getting my frame done, stripped, and powdercoated.
