A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Petcock w/no filter?

Quick question: I got a petcock in from eBay, gotta clean it up and inspect it further, but it does not come with a filter. I don't see where one would go, really, it's very flat on the tank side. The fuel line has a filter, so do I really need to run one on the fuel tap?

Maybe my year and model didn't come with one? ('79 GS550L)

TIA

Thanks, Swanny. I'll put this puppy in later after a good cleaning and fire her up for the first time in two weeks! Awwwww yeah:D

With out the stock in tank filter screen that fits into the petcock you will not have a reserve so keep that in mind

Really? Is that how it works? Hm. Good to know, thanks.

I couldn't even try it out tonight anyway, it started raining in the afternoon and just stopped about an hour ago:( I'll see if I can manage to wake up earlier tomorrow to work on it, shouldn't take long.

You can still have a reserve function and get by with just an inline filter. The in tank filter has two seperate feeds for the petcock. Figure out on your petcock which side of the stock filter would have fed the run side on the petcock. Then use a piece of nylon tube an inch or two long in that side so it sticks up into the tank. Once that line quits picking up fuel you can switch to reserve.

I was gonna try Billy's nylon tube idea, but no need: I had ordered another used petcock from a guy I found on eBay, and it arrived today - with the strainer attached. Cool! I cleaned it up and should (weather permitting) put it all in today.

Thanks for all the help!
