If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Pingel Conversion Question

I've been reading the forums about the Pingel Petcock Conversion but still haven't found an answer for my question.

Does the Pingel's valve eliminate the vacuum element that is so troublesome with the stock petcock? Essentially making it an On/Off switch?

Or, can I go the easy route and install an inline On/Off valve and run the bike in the PRI position??

Yes, with the exception of one of pingle's recent valves that debuted last year which operates similarly to our stock valves and uses vacuum to open. Other than that model, their valves are manual with three settings - off, on and reserve. They work well but you have to trust yourself to turn it off after every ride.
I haven't heard anything about the vacuum pingles but I'd imagine that they are built better than our stock units.

Re: Pingel Conversion Question

The pingel petcock is mechanical with a reserve, run and off position. There is no vacuum diaphram or function. The vacuum line from the carb will be plugged if using a Pingel petcock.

There is no need to run the bike in the prime position if you wish to install an inline on/off valve. Run the stock petcock normally and switch off the fuel when you shut down.

Earlfor - That is the issue. I just had the carbs rebuilt and installed a new valve. The bike runs fine on PRI, however when I switch to RUN, it essentially runs out of fuel and I switch it back to PRI to keep riding.

Then I dont see the point. What youre telling me is that your petcock is faulty and instead of fixing it, you want to just leave it on gravity feed on/prime all the time and install another valve to shut off fuel flow.
Wouldnt the simpler and more obvious solution be to fix the petcock you already have?

Have you checked the vacuum hose. Remove it from the engine side & suck on it the valve should flow gas, IF it doesn't you still have a problem with the petcock

Sounds like you want to do this....

Sorry, it doesn't work...trust me.

Instead of buying a second valve you can use your faulty petcock like a Pingel. Put in PRIME when driving and run when you shutdown. Just don't forget to take it off the PRIME position.

Pingle does now make a vacuum actuated petcock if you wish. I'd just buy a rebuild kit for $21 at cyclerecyle.com. I hated my Pingle, it sits on my workbench all polished up as a nice paperweight.
