Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

can i get a pingel that i don't have to turn the gas off when i kill the motor, is that the vacuum one?

I'm used to shutting off the gas. All dirt bikes require it. You just do it - part of the process.

The hex or round shape is a matter of preference...you need to measure the inlet hole in your tank. If it's either 34mm or 44mm, I think you can use the vacuum model. Otherwise, you'll have to use a standard Pingel. The reason for this is because you'll need an adapter plate which will cost you another 10 bucks or so and the vacuum model will only accomodate a couple of the adapter sizes.

If you do a search on the forum, you'll find all the information you'll need to put it on your bike. My bike is a 1980 and those are the most difficult ones to deal with; I put one on and it works just great. Good luck!

Unless i missed something i believe that you meant to say "you need to measure the distance from center to center between the mounting screws on your tank? I theenk 8O

Dont feel bad. I made a a mistake once many many years ago. I can't remember what it was though. In fact i cant remember making that last post either.

Some GS models have virtually no clearance between the tank and the top of the carbs: a bigger petcock won't fit. Make sure that you have room for the petcock and adapter plate.

Don, that's what I meant when I said that my 1980 is the toughest one (the least amount of clearance). My Pingel was a tight fit but it DOES fit and doesn't rub against anything....if there's a model that has less clearance, I don't know which one it might be...I think the 1980 models are the worst.

Crap, I planned on buying a pingle valve this spring for my 81 GS750L. Don't tell me the darn thing won't fit now....

It will definitely fit your '81 Gs750L; that was my point, exactly. It will be important how you mount it but it will fit.

When buying a pingle for my 1980 GS550L, center to center on the mounting bolts were 50mm, I think most other years were 44mm. I think.
The best way is just to measure before ordering. The chrome Pingle valves have brass internals which last longer and are smoother as oppose to the aluminum counter parts. Search Pingle fuel valve on this forum and you'll come up with some good posts with part numbers.

As long as your carbs are in good shape (preferably cleaned with new float valves, needles & seats), you can get buy with occaisonally leaving the gas on for short periods of time. I have so far. Knock on wood!!! I would advise turning it off though.

knowing me i would leave the gas on alot, thats why i'm hoping i can get a vacuum pingel, anyone by chance know the MM distance on the 82 GS11E?

Measure the distance in inches and multiply x 25.4 for mm.

I have an '83 850L, and was thinking of getting one of these pingles. My fuel valve seems allright, but it is 21 years old, and you practically need a wrench to turn it to the reserve position. I wouldn't care if it was vacuum (I'm used to dirt bikes anyway), but what do you do with the vacuum line from the oem valve? Just plug it?

Yes, just cap off the vacuum fitting on the #3 carb the was connected to the factory petcock.

I am very new to this. Just got my 79 GS1000L RUnning. TOok it for it's first ride in 7 or so years. It was suggested here on the forum to get a Pingle. I too was concerned about remembering to shut it off. Even with only one day of riding done...it is just like turning the key off, it has already become like second nature!!
