A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I purchsed this NOS blue tank for my 80 GS 750 E a few years ago. The seller advertised as being for my bike. However when I finaly got around to trying to install it, I found it was not for this bike. It looks exactly like the original, except the location of the petcock.
If anyone can identify this tank, I would be most grateful. I will then be posting it on the parts for sale. Because I'm sure someone could use this almost perfect tank.

Ahh, the "dreaded '80 petcock" again.

You tank might be for an '81, which had a more 'normal' petcock, but was otherwise the same.

.

Thanks Steve. Yes the '80 petcock is "special." Mounting holes further apart. And location on the '80 is to the rear, where this tank the petcock mounts toward the middle.

"80 or "81, depending on the petcock location. 750e or 1100E, depending on the stripes.

It will work fine and even looks OK on a GS1000.

I would have bought it a few months ago for mine.

I have 4 of those tanks.
Depending on the petcock C-T-C measurement,
it fits an '80-'81 1100E model.
I could take some pic's tomorrow and narrow down the differences if needed.
I will be selling two of them soon and need some pic's to post in the for sale section anyway. ;)
Whoops, forgot... and a 750 tank.

I would appricate the pics and info. I am only familiar with my bike (80-gs750e) where the petcock is at the rear (side) of tank. This one mounts more to the middle. I just want to be correct in my posting to sell it.

Therefore, it must be an 81, as if dosen't fit on my 80. Stripes are exactly as on my 750e.

Thanks so much for the pics. So matching size, petcock location and stripes; looks like the one I have is an '81 750-1000.
It would be great to have a picture catalog somewhere to help folks identify parts such as these. I have collected a couple boxes of stuff that I thought would work on my bike, but don't; and I would hate to throw them away if someone could use them.:o
