Plug/Cover for Speedo Drive?

I am replacing my OEM gauges with a Trail Tech Vapor and need something to cover or plug the hole where the speedo cable attached to the drive unit on the front axle. I don't want to do anything permanent, I would like it to be reversible back to stock in the future if necessary. Is there anything out there like that?

Look for a plastic end cap fitting for round pipes in the correct diameter to fit into that speedo drive unit.

Something like the attached pic.

How about a bolt the proper thread and just drill it so it fits over the drive tang?

I like this idea but the thread is M16x1.0, which is a complete bastard size. The standard pitch for an M16 is 2.0, unfortunately, and it would be tough to find a die in M16x1.0.

If it was me/mine I'd probably find a small chrome lug nut, or a decent looking brass fitting ,or a large HVAC check valve cap , or a bullet head or spike head chrome nut or a cool piece off a junk lamp ...Whatever fits over the speedo part.

Then use some clear silicone caulking applied just right so it's on not on the threads ,and all the way around to make a seal. There are small tubes of the stuff where a caulking gun is not needed (in whichever hardware store).

The type caulking I'm refering to, is rubbery and clear but removeable with a little careful scrapeing.

I owned a Harley-Davidson ('cause I always wanted one) with as much Chrome as possible ('cause for some really stupid reason I always wanted all chrome) (would like another someday but not as sole MC )...
Anyway it had some dark secrets...
The speedometer was held in by that type hardware grade silicone.
I had to cut it with razor carefully to replace the speedometer cable once , didn't use enough clear silicone replacing speedo and one day it started turning around while riding!

I removed the heel shifter and covered the exposed gear shaft with a chrome lug-nut, some rolled up cut soda can and yep, a dab of clear silicone caulking. (since nothing new to bike) Looked great though.

Even the inserts in the chrome allen heads had some sticky red crap that helped hold them in the bolt heads. Little round chrome inserts that cover the allen heads.
Needed a razor to pry those out , and there I was figuring this stuff as I worked...
SAE, metric, allen head, Torx head, lock washers, red lock-tite, blue lock tite, no scratchy the chrome care, etc.....that's when I'd really cuss!
Anyhow , the clear silicone ,with care, will work good for stuff like that.
